Unlike most other dressage books, the training advice is presented in a highly accessible form, with 'Problems and Tips' sections identifying training difficulties and offering solutions to overcome them. This special feature enables the book to be used as a quick reference, to be dipped into at leisure or when the need arises. It covers the main elements of the horse's education - from early schooling on the lunge to Grand Prix movements - stressing throughout the need for sympathic management of the horse, both during his work and when at liberty. It includes [perphaps surprisely] a chapter on jumping, with gymnastic grid exercises to supple the horse and to complement the work on the flat. It also dissusses the importance of rider psychology and how to acquire the right attitude to training and competing. The German training principles, including the establishment of Losgelassenheit [looseness], Durchlassigkeit [submission and responsiveness to the aids], Schung [implusion and swing], are emphasised throughout, giving some insight into why and how the German system produces so many world beating horses. HB, B&W Photos + Superbly Illustrated, 160 pages.
